Etiquette is not about just knowing how to set a proper table or introduce your grandmother to a friend. Etiquette is about being nice. Etiquette means getting along with other people, being kind and pleasant; even when you are having a bad day.
Who knows the person you are kind to might be having a day worse than yours.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the elementary girls’ etiquette club called Manners Matter. I was praising the girls for being so kind to two new girls. When I said good-by to the girls as they left the class they all said, “Thank you, Mrs. Jamieson,” and gave me a hug. At that moment my heart swelled with pride. The girls’ demonstrated perfect examples of etiquette in action - “being nice.”
