My children are all grown up. One of my boys lives in California and the other one in Washington. They are successful adults with busy lives of their own. However -- there are still times when they call just to talk and want to hear my voice, a kind word or a “phone hug.” There will always be times when your children call, whether they are 16 or 60, and need your support and advice.
What is a phone hug?
To me, a phone hug is the next best thing to a real hug, when distance makes it impossible for a real hug. A phone hug is better than a text, better then a card and better than a voice message. A phone hug is definitely better than a tweet or a Facebook message.
A phone hug works like this:
At the end of the conversation, send a phone a hug. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and visualize that the hug is going all along the phone lines right to your son or daughter. Tell them it’s coming. Let them know you are sending the hug their way. Ask them to close their eyes, take a deep breath and visualize receiving the hug.
Trust me -- it works every time whether you are across town, across the United States or across the world.
A phone hug always works and you will both hang up feeling blessed.
