Today is the birthday of Mildred J. Hill.
Who was Mildred J. Hill? Ms. Hill wrote the music to the song, “Happy Birthday to You.” Her sister, Patty Smith Hill, wrote the lyrics. The sisters, who were teachers, first published the song in 1893 titling it, “Good Morning to All.”
Patty Hill sang the song each morning with her kindergarten class as a greeting. Singing the song was similar to “Opening” that I wrote about in Friday’s post, “Great Day Thursday.”

In 1924 the words were changed to, “Happy Birthday to You.” The Happy Birthday Song is sung somewhere in the world every minute. So -- if today is your birthday and someone sings the Happy Birthday Song to you, you can thank a teacher.
“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count.
It’s the life in your years.”
Abraham Lincoln
