Last school year, my
friend Kathe and I offered an etiquette class for the 3rd, 4th,
5th, and 6th grade girls at StarShine Academy. This was a learning experience
for both of us as well as the girls.
With great enthusiasm, Kathe and I invited thirteen girls to
join us and were delighted when all the girls said, “Yes”. We planned on offering the class for one
semester. While we did a lot of research, somehow or other, we missed the fact
that most etiquette classes were for a six week period. We had planned for
almost twice that long.
And, sure enough, after our sixth session we ran out of
ideas. I hated to drop the class because the young girls were so enthusiastic
and well mannered, and it was just plain fun. I did not want to let them down,
so I went to the girls and told them that this was all we had to teach them and
asked them, “What would you like to do?”
Without any hesitation,
thirteen hands went up and they said, almost in unison, “Let’s start all over
again.”
P.S. I was at StarShine
when school started this year and several of the girls asked me if we could do
it again.
