Today is Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart’s birthday. In honor of this day, we thought it would be nice to
list our favorite Mozart quotes:
v “I pay no attention whatever to
anybody’s praise or blame. I simply follow my own feelings.”
v “Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor
imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love,
that is the soul of genius.”
v “To talk well and eloquently is a very great art,
but that an equally great one is to know the right moment to stop.”
v “Music, even in situations of the greatest
horror, should never be painful to the ear but should flatter and charm it, and
thereby always remain music.”
v “Music is not in the notes, but in the silence
between.”
v “All I insist on, and nothing else, is that you
should show the whole world that you are not afraid. Be silent, if you choose;
but when it is necessary, speak; and speak in such a way that people will
remember it.”
v “We can do no great things, only small things
with great love.”
Side Note:
I have had the opportunity to visit many schools
around the country and the only school that I know that has music playing in
the hallways and classrooms is StarShine. At StarShine, we live by 15 Guiding
Principles and not rules.
Guiding Principle #4 is “Music is the first language.”
When you visit any of the StarShine Schools, you
will hear classical music in the classrooms and hallways. Listening to
classical music improves learning and provides a calm and peaceful environment
for the students and teachers. The students also have the opportunity to enjoy
music and theater classes that are integrated with the core subjects of
reading, writing and math. If you never listen to classical music or Mozart at
home or in your school, you might give it a try. I guarantee it will improve
your day.
Happy
Birthday, Mozart!
